Smile

With a crown of flowers
Amid soaring red towers
I felt the warmth of the sun
A dream that was often fun
But in my fortress of stones
It’s where I hid my bones
Away from your prying eyes
Beneath the autumn skies
For I am only your shield
In this breathing battlefield
Ready to be your living sacrifice
Because your smile will suffice
Until the day that I am broken
Where I am only to be spoken
No longer am I at your side
Where I lay my life and pride
But I will cross the distant skyline
With a smile that will forever be mine
